WOAH!
Where has the time gone!? It has been TOO long since I’ve updated – wedding season has kicked my rear end! I am so blessed to have been a part of my client’s lives. There are soon to be some fabulous posts soon for some wedding recaps.
Aside from a bit of traveling, weddings, social events, and producing editorial photo shoots – I’ve had the pleasure of working with one of the leading design firms in the country, David Beahm Design.
I want to dedicate this blog post to one of my dearest friends and to the launch of my Industry Professional Highlight Series. I remember back to my early years of college, stumbling upon David’s website and bookmarking the webpage simply as “woah.” I’ve admired this gentleman – his life, work ethic and dedication to his craft for so many years. He has inspired me in both a professional and personal sense.
I recently had an interview with David on his life and career, and I am so excited to share it with you.
Without further adieu, Mr. David Beahm. “applause!!!!”
What is David Beahm Design?
Our mission, as a team, is to give our clients the most customized event possible while always paying serious homage to the budget. I think that’s the most difficult part of our job is helping people realize a dream within the constraints of the bottom line.
Who is David Beahm?
Country boy from the mountains moves to the big city – big city kicks him around a bit, but welcomes him with open arms – so he decided to stay and make it work. So he did.
How did you start in the event industry?
My mom is artsy-craftsy; my dad was in Hotel Restaurant; my Godfather is a very talented florist and I was in show business – it just all melded together and made sense that events be the next step in my career.
What has been the highlight of your career?
Realizing that after years of hard work, that I finally have a team that totally gets it – we drive each other crazy because we all want perfection so badly that it clouds judgment from time to time – but we all have the same goal and that’s a pretty big thing for me.

I’ve never been so impressed by the smooth flow of a design team. they have it to a science.
What do you look for in the years ahead for dbd?
Since we’re in NYC, our overhead is just plain silly and I want to correct that. I’m constantly looking for new and smart ways of working and running the business while maintain our brand integrity. This “new economy” has taken the events industry and shaken it up a LOT – but people will still have events, because that’s what people do – we just have to figure out ways to maintain the business profitablity and not run ourselves, physically, into the ground working in the mean-time.
Who would you most like to design an event for?
All of my fabulous staff and freelancers who work so hard to make beautiful events for other people – the only thing is, who would produce it? They’d all be at the party.
What inspires you?
Courage.
photos from the david stark party I attended with David Beahm during my recent visit.
middle photo is a profile silhouette of me that was made in about 30 seconds. beyond amazing.
What is your strong point?
Handling people.
What is your weak point?
Handling people.
Tell us something we don’t know about David Beahm.
If I told you, you wouldn’t believe it. Then the secret would be out and what fun is that?
Your advice for young up and coming professionals in the industry?
Failure is not an option. If you make a promise to someone, you make it happen – whatever it takes…but always make sure it’s beautiful and that it’s ALWAYS done with a smile – even if you’re gritting your teeth inside. Luck is not something that really has anything to do with success – there’s a reason they call it work. So work hard and ‘git ‘er done!’
Naturally David also has a green thumb. He has installed the NYC Tomato Cam to show his city rooftop garden.
